In a few weeks I'm heading off to Nicaragua again... ...and this is the first time since probably 1993 that I go without taking someone with me... ...so I have no idea what to expect of the trip or what I'll be doing. I realized long ago that I often use familiar faces as a crutch (won't go to parties where I don't know someone, etc.), but I've been doing the same for trips to the homeland... I'd ask if this was wrong, but I know I wouldn't be asking if I didn't think it was. So anyway, what to do, what to do... Its not like I'm not looking forward to it, or like I'm not going to see people I know there; I don't think this is a symptom of my disliking being the center of attention, that I can deal with... on trips though, and any outing really, I prefer to have someone else with whims to cater to... ...the young lady I dated in high school noticed this one day at the county fair (that's right, I went to the county fair... but this was Miami... so... not quite po-dunk)... anyway, we were (the group) at the fair and I kept asking what everyone wanted to do... and kept trying to make sure we did all of it so everyone would be happy - I never put my own wishes into the thing. I don't know that its a horrible thing, I still enjoy myself, and am pleased to do the things I enjoy - but I don't feel that strongly about most things that I'd be upset if we didn't. I don't substitute someone else's wants for my own - I just prefer not to impose the things I don't feel strongly about on others. Even the things I feel strongly about, I try to keep to myself if others don't agree; I mean, who's to say I'm right?

What else?

Hrm... ...still on this subject - I honestly don't care that often, I honestly prefer to go with what someone else wants when I don't have a preference. Stop judging me. :P - I think I'm fine with that.

On the subject of the upcoming trip though - I am a little bit disappointed that after so many years of going back, that I'm a little apprehensive about not taking a buffer with me. So... a little more upset with myself than the situation.

Whatever; it'll be fine, and I'll go to the beach and ride horse as planned. This will end no other way.

Anyone want to come with me?

...was browsing through an old hard drive & found the aborted beginning of a short story; I now know that the urge it mentions is a symptom of my bloglaziness.... which is also the cause of my posting this instead of actually recording something new. :)

Do you ever get the feeling you’ve gone and done something behind your back that you don’t even want yourself to know about? For years and years I’ve been haunted by this constant feeling that I’m signed up for a class and am purposefully not showing up to it. Sometimes, when I’m dreaming, I’ll walk by a classroom full of people I know and suddenly realize that I’m supposed to be in there with them, but I’ll duck under the window in the door and hide. “So good to see you once again, I thought that you were hiding; you thought that I had run away: chasing the tail of dogma.” Sometimes, when I listen to TOOL, I have an inkling of what the matter is. Apparently I don’t know. The general feeling in the bones is that I should really be elsewhere right now. Always right now instead of, say, in twenty minutes. Did I miss something? An off-ramp? Did I sleep through an entire day and now deep inside my soul knows that I’m constantly a day behind on everything that’s going on, and my life is just the thrown-together attempt to live as though I’m caught up? Is this just insecurity? And why do I keep getting the urge to write down lyrics to the songs I’m listening to?

..so, I can handle the life so far, but today I wandered into the frozen food section (which I never do) in search of something, and realized that, one day, I might be in there on purpose every shopping trip, looking for a week's groceries, giving up on cooking and nutrition, thinking lean cuisine and whatnot are the same as "healthy eating," and having forgotten that there is a different way to be.

I'd prefer the US finally stop messing with Nicaragua. I don't like the idea of Ortega in power, but Nicaragua voted for him, and now has to deal with it. I think that the US has always used Nicaragua as a test ground for horribly retarded foreign policies to Latin America and should never be encouraged to think they can arbitrarily remove people from power anywhere. I think it would be irresponsible to let the US presume to exercise control over any other sovereign nation... once given that control, especially by another nation's people, the US wouldn't relinquish it; anyone wanting the US to solve all of their home nation's problems should likely just move to and stay in the US.I'm now rambling, but the main point was, its dangerous to let any other nation (including Iran or Venezuela) control your own nation, internal issues should be handled by the nation's citizens. Nicaragua has been irresponsible or uninspired in its choice of leaders and needs to stand up on its own (the citizens can only elect fom the choices they present themselves). There's no need for the US to intervene in Nicaragua ever; the figure is soemthing like 60 percent of the country didn't vote for him, but of the percentage that actually voted, the majority did put Ortega in power. The people got what they people voted for, regardless of whether they understood what they were doing. Social and political change in Nicaragua is needed, but has to come from within.

I meant to post that the other day (Friday) I found my car unable to start after leaving work.. apparently the battery had died.. the mp3 player had lead to not hearing the "headlights-on" warning, and the death of the battery.. and apparently a blown main fuse. I saw the copper part of the fuse was dark, but the sun was setting, so I didn't notice it was blown... so.. tried to jump-start it, to no avail. At any rate, got a ride from a kind coworker and her husband to a local auto shop, attempting to purchase a new battery (which sucks, since I'd just bought one not a month ago when I changed the alternator).. anyway, the guy at the shop decides it sounds strange that I couldn't even get the lights on with the jumper cables attached, so he tags along, offering to help me get my battery back to his store and the new battery back to my car so my friend from work could go home. ...moving on... he drives me to my car, first trying the jumper cables again, then noticing the blown fuse.. so.. dude drives me to the next town to try and find a fuse, and back to my car, where we discover the one purchased won't fit well.. so... we get the car started the unsafe way, and again he follows me to the auto parts store, where they apparently don't have the right fuse... so he gets me to buy a correct-physical-size smaller amp one just to get the car started and home before leaving. At this point, when I turn the key and find the car won't start, I don't have the heart to try and delay him, so I wait 'till he's gone before using one of those little "jumpstart kits" to get the car going, and then to the home.

anyway, bought the right fuse on Sunday.

still haven't changed it.

I was recently told by a friend that, since I don't ask questions about (I'm going to say anyone here, regardless of what the subject was) anyone, that anyone ffeels I'm not interested in them as a person.

I'm not completely sure what to answer here. I've always found that people will find a way to give you the information they want you to have, and I've always been patient in waiting for enough information to learn about the things they don't want to tell me... but I admitted that I saw her point... I just don't know what to do... I don't want to pry.... and I'm patient. I didn't know it was offensive.

the content of someone's post touched on how insanely full a Whole Foods grocery store was at its grand opening.

further: To be honest, what I saw at the Sonny's was just tons of white people, which, if you've ever been to south Florida, you'd have been just as shocked to see so many of you guys out, about, and congregating for about three weeks in such a mass that I couldn't get into the place... though... I say couldn't get in... but its more like: didn't get in for fear of being lynched... that many cowboy hats makes me nervous... though its not just cowboy hats, I had a similar feeling at Whole Foods here in Altamonte, maybe the part where there were way too many employees waiting to attend made me uncomfortable: I like to be ignored when I'm doing my shopping. :)

The t.v. remote is on the gray box next to this table. If you want to watch a DVD, press the "TV/VCR" button next to the zero... the volume on the DVDs is via the stereo...so its also a good way to listen to music if so inclined. There are some DVDs along the left side of the stereo, on the floor in front of those, and in a box next to that. Most of them are anime from Josmelvi. Do not drink Juice's Flor de Cana (the box under this laptop).

The other day I nearly burnt my popcorn... or actually, I did burn a good ammount of it... when I opened the bag it was smouldering in some parts... the smell wasn't the greatest, but the flavor on the rest of it was still good.

I was in Nicaragua for a few weeks December and January; lots happened. I'm not mentioning it right now.

You know, I ended up at a bar in the middle of not really anywhere the other day... before going there my friends debated whether they should take me there, they refer to it as the place where they go to get hammered, and claim they don't have wholesome experiences there... so anyway, they described it as some hole-in-the-wall joint full of crazyish and .. well, his girl used the word crack-whore; though I think in a figurative sense... but so: they made it seem a seedy and dingy place... so I said something to the effect of: I've just been to Nicaragua and cantinas there, how bad could this place be? -moving along- we get there and its not only cleaner than places I'd been to, but honestly... it had electricity all the time, so: score!
They pointed out various people, and all I could see was that they were acting just like people in any other bar, except, yes, they weren't the prettiest people in the world (maybe the first bar where nobody was looking at me to look down on me?)... I forget where I was going with this. The point was, these were regular people doing the same things superficially more attractive people do, so why isn't that a beauteous thing instead of making them whores (no matter how loosely the term was used)?... whatever. it was nice to see everyone enjoying themselves. it was in the middle of not really anywhere. The cops were waiting down the street for the drunks.

I have more, but I'm going to stop. this took the wanttoshare away.

2. starting tomorrow, since I'm a dual-citizen of Nicaragua, I'm eligible to call people comrade... the people of my homeland are in the process of counting the votes that'll turn the country over to a jerk. (great, now when I go there in December I'll be shot).
3. the way to my heart is through my stomach. Luckily for you all, I keep it to myself, otherwise nobody would bring me food.
4. When some books (Harry Potter for example) come out, I have to get my copy on Friday and finish by Sunday... otherwise I'm unlikely to go to work.
5. I've moved a few times since college, and the more I move, the less items I unpack after the move... such that now a lot of my stuff has been in a friend's garage for a year and there's more just in boxes... most notably, the last 2 moves, I've not even brought a bed along... not even a futon matress... so I've been sleeping on blankets & a foam pad for over a year now, and I don't see an end to it anytime soon.... so: I use this and a few other things as an excuse not to look.

so at the beach today I spotted some fins off in the distance... so a bit wary at first due to that time in the keys a few months ago with the shark, I thought mayhaps I should we should be getting out of the water... but I saw one take a breath, so we stayed put... and there along and inside the waves in front of us crossed 3 dolphins swimming around with the jellyfish :)
as the waves rolled up higher, they were swimming across them so seeing them behind the heightened wall of water was like looking through the glass of an aquarium

Speaking of using; needles are my anti-drug. I'm not down with the tearing of skin via metal points. I fee a little guilty about not giving blood freely and constantly as some people do, I even say things like "its my blood, I paid for the food to make it"... and even though I don't feel that way really, if I ever started giving blood on a regular basis, maybe I'd become so desensitized to the needles I'd just skip straight to the heroin... as that's the only really cool drug anyway.

I work in a lot of sandy areas, and I like to follow velvet ants around (females lack wings and are pretty easy to spot)... if you catch them, they make a squeaking noise (I don't advise doing this, since they're really wasps)... (their nickname is "cow killer").. anyway, I think they do it by rubbing segments of their abdomens together, but anyway, I use foreceps..

...as a side note, I've increasingly been taking my comments on other blogs and my emails as posts... its on account of the laziness.

I, for one reason or another, find it to be not the most joyous thing to go and get my hair cut. Whatever, its been over a month, the lady that cut it the past few times is gone (though it looks like the girl that had been cutting it months and months ago but had disappeared might be back).

so anyway, I went. the lady cut my hair. afterwards she shampooed it. usually they'll wash it beforehand to get the stuff out of it ("product," grass, birds, etc.). she washed it afterwards though. so I don't know if there's a point to that since I'm just going to go home and wash it again and get the hair off of the rest of me.

so I enjoy the part where the lady washes my hair. its possible that I'm wrong for enjoying it... its more of a scalp massage I guess. though my feeling guilty for enjoying it makes me tip her more. and then I don't want to go back for over a month. till I wake up and I know people are probably concerned about me just from looking.

also, I have no idea what I'm doing with the sideburns. I've no luck with trying to keep them of equal dimensions... and they get fuzzy... which is wrong.. though me brother suggests I go for full-on lamb-chops and a confederate army cap.

At any rate, it turns out we're like elephants (I already knew this)... you know, when you watch elephants pass each other on the nature shows they're all tactile and whatnot, ... so whatever, he and I have arms instead of trunks (don't go there), but it was all huggy and stuff.

yeah... so I was given an avocado last week.. a little green (ignore that the whole thing is green-colored), but a few days in the kitchen and softness ensued. So today I got back from ze verk and it was so ripe and ready that its skin just flipped off like the clothes of those girls we always wish we had no conscience around.

I've always enjoyed hurricane season; for many of us from south florida, it usually means a cookout to get rid of all those perishables (grilled meats and ice cream). At any rate, now that I work for who I work for, there're work-related preparations (some, out of necessity, mostly last-minute, even when they're planned ahead)and so there's little to no time to get my own supplies ready. So... you'd think I'd be at the supermarket by now beating the crowds to get water and crappy canned goods... but instead I'm sitting here watching some kind of commercial where pork loins and apricots are making out.

As it turns out, you'd think a lot of things, but then realilty doesn't sync up. I saw recently that improbable + time = eventual (misquote? dunno, I can't remember where I saw this). At any rate: who knows?

Sure, some say bunnies are dressed to blend in with their surroundings so they're hard to find... like some being is trying to protect them... but then when you take them home, they start being born bright colors, so obviously its the absence of people to eat them in nature that makes them hide, because when people are the only ones around, they become easily identifiable so we know where they are when we're hungry. While at the beach yesterday I asked a friend to spray sunscreen on my back. I now have 8 splotches of nondarkened skin, with little trails of where the sunscreen ran down my back, away from the main blotch. A number of things. There are a few that stick in my head. Sadly, many of them are stupid lyrics. This past weekend I learned the line: "You ain't fresh azimiz"... and anyone I've asked to say it back to me has incorrectly inserted proper grammar into the phrase... so now I want to learn the song... because I can't believe I'm is... is in there. It blows my mind with its coolness.

I'm taking another trip to Nicaragua next week, just for eleven days this time though, but the weather and the water will be great... since its cold even in South Beach right now. Yar, and by cold I mean I'm not going to swim in it till its like bathwater.

I was so sick the other day that I could hardly hold my arms up. I went to work anyway with chills and weakness all-over... then I slept through Wednesday... that being one of my days off.

Also: I gave up chocolate for lent. Last year it was God's fuzzy creatures which hide meat inside their bodies. There are other things, but chocolate... geez. I don't know.
